These two robots play soccer against two other robots, completely by themselves. They competed at the World Championships Robocup 2009, in the junior league playing for Team 'xD' Vossius. Links: |
Measuring paraglide's wing behavior in realtime to develop more safe wings and get more details of behavior in certain conditions. One big problem of paraglider is the collapse or stall, because it is no fixed wing. Most of all fatal accidents are caused by a (asymmetric) collapses as main trigger in the accident chain. This project do a research on wing-behavior in detail while flying and trying to give manufactures better data, which helps to become more safe or faster. Links: |
There is no really cool monitor system for skiffs and rowing boats. We've developed one! Combining a polar heartbeat sensor with a 3D-Acceleration sensor to measure: Heartbeat, Row beats, Max - min row beat, Race/Time. This device is splash-proof, easy to use, with an extra backlight for twighlight use. Links: |
SAMSA is an autonomous hexapod robot with 3-axis freedom on each leg. It can walk at high speeds, react to sound, distance and print information on a display. It has 18 micro-servos, a microphone, distance sensor, sensitive mobile anthenas and an 8x8 graphic display. |
hoops is an interactive game adaptable to different space topologies and conditions. Players can increase the difficulty by tangling hoops tentacles or pulling friend's colored spots while playing. Players can generate different types of sequences and levels by hitting hoops head to listen the next instruction. Links: |
The noise interactive facade responds to environmental noise level in different frequencies by altering its surface distorting the reflected image. 4 frequencies ranges were chosen in the audible spectrum (0-20khz) and the noise level is mapped to changes in specific sections of the reflective surface. SEED is an interactive light fixture that eacts to the volume of the crowd surrounding it. Based on volume levels, the light takes on different colors and serves as mood lighting that reflects the party around it. Links: |
This software is for stacking blocks within an environment of forces. As each unit is stacked it simultaneously calculates its own weight and balance in real-time to produce strange structural forms. Links: |
Bitquid explores the imaginary dividing line where the digital world ends and the analogue world begins. Bitquid consists out of a system of hoses with a total length of about 800 metres. The system can communicate 32 bits at a time. There are two screens, the first screen shows an image before it is sent through the system, the second screen displays the re-digitized image. Links: |
There are environmental phenomena that are far from the experience and knowledge of people. It is necessary to start thinking about information systems, data visualization and the interaction with them that encourage the understanding and contribute to disseminate this knowledge. The MIUs are a set devices that amplify social-environmental phenomena through designed experiences inside/outside the units. Links: |
Just as there are traffic lights that help us regulate traffic both vehicular and pedestrian, why not talk about environmental signals? They could give us information not only from different phenomena but also the environmental state of our ecosystems. We can imagine these lights in different parts of the city, in parks, contaminated or abandoned contexts. The environmental traffic light consists of a series of units for independent particular phenomena; each unit has sensors and a display that provides visual information to the public on the measurement on the site. The collected data is sent over the wireless network at the University of Los Andes to a server where it is stored for further analysis and future work of the project. Links: |
