Just got my mini today -- thank you Hernando! -- and was perplexed that I wasn't able to upload via Vista despite having no problems uploading to a couple of Arduino platforms.

I switched over to my XP machine and didn't have any problem.  So the wiring hardware boards are confirmed (of course) to be good.

Here's the Vista error:

avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "com15":  the system cannot find the file specified.

I've verified the driver version and there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary.  I did note that when I plugged in my nano Arduino the com port was com8 rather than 15 for what it's worth.

I will take the processor out of the arduino to make it into a usb to serial converter and try to use it instead of the wiring usb adapter tomorrow and see if we can isolate the problem at that level.

Any thoughts to resolve this are appreciated.

Change the COM port number to a port in the 1-9 range.
COM1, COM2 etc. Make sure you have selected tools/Firmaware version 2.x
