Hello,

I planned to make an OcTinct-like 8x8 matrix ( http://www.upwardnotnorthward.com/2008/03/octinct-is-up-and-running.html )

I'll make it with Wiring platform as the brain.

It will become a "work-in-progress" as soon as I'll receive the different parts.

I'm trying and I'll try to get information about shift register, RGB Leds version and more about the schematics by asking to Jonathan from the site I linked above ; but he seems very busy, and we know all what it is (I'll have a ... baby around november, I guess I'll be VERY busy too  Tongue ) ; but he seems to be VERY nice and cooperative, so, I just hope he gives me the "little" help to begin.

If someone was interested, we could collaborate here in this thread or elsewhere on this forum.
Indeed, I have 2 main ideas:
- making THIs controller to continue to create music soundscapes
- SHARING all of my configuration (from my fingers to the soundpeakers)

I LOVE opensource projects. They are the future!

some of the informations I'll use are ... here on the monome site.

I ordered my parts here:
- http://www.sparkfun.com/ (buttons pads, PCB boards pad, RGB Leds)
- http://www.farnell.com/ (MAX7221, 1N4148 high speed diodes)
- a shop in my town (Marseille ; for resistors, capacitors, advices..)

... and I'm waiting for the shipment!

as I'm working with the
powerful
wiring board, I'll post here all my tests when I'll have some results.

I planned to create a documentation about my project.
It may not be as technical as an electronic engineer would make, but it provides information for those who want to build a 8x8 RGB monome clone!

as I wrote, I totally agree with your Wiring project purpose (open minded projects, etc etc)

as I wrote, I'll aggregate everything here...  Wink
Because, I support and LOVE the Wiring platform/project!

here another thread to follow:
http://forum.sparkfun.com/viewtopic.php?t=10617

I'll probably use MAX7221 for each 4x4 ... I'll dig it!

http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1206907547 is a good link too:

Another idea:

on Wiring Board: 48 ports DIN/DOUT...
for one column in the sparkfun matrix PCB (the one with buttons..): 3 anodes.
for 8 columns: 3x8=24 anodes

for one line 1 pin with all the cathodes connected.
for 8 lines : 8 pins used.

8 + 24 = 32 pins needed.

Could it be possible to use only the board to drive the matrix ?
Digital Pins in "IN" mode for the DIG
Digital Pins in "OUT" mode for the SEG
etc etc

Does it mean something?
I may have too much current to the DIN...

I have to check more further datasheet etc...

it is possible, but the LED driber chips take care of things like current, this important to have the same light intensity when turning on few or maney LEDs.

hi barragan,

I want to use 64 RGB leds common cathode + 64buttons as I fed up everyone Wink
How could I calibrate my gear ? I mean how could I correctly find all te correct values for my matrix ? currents? resistors?

I mean, will the board  resist to my big current sinking? etc

I'm interested by all informations you could provide...

cheeeers!

on this post : http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1211501076/0
there is a code that works VERY fine with arduino board.

I tried and I'm trying yet to test it with Wiring anvironment ... it doesn't work fine!  Cry Cry Cry

I post here the last conclusion:

on my computer, with Arduino environment: it compiles fine!
Of course, I cannot use it to upload the code to my ... Wiring board   Cry

it is probably a path/code problem Sad

FrequencyTimer2 doesn't give a correct compilation too
