Hi all,

I got 2 boards last year with FW 1.x and worked right out of the box as expected.

Last month I got 3 new ones but still have not been able to put them to work. I have followed all the instructions with the drivers, etc. (as I did with the former 2 boards) but no luck.

I run on XP and guess the FW of the boards is 2.x since I got them in march.

Just in case I have tried all combinations of COM ports and FW versions (in two different computers with XP) but still cannot upload a program to the board.  The errors in each case vary.

Assuming I have FW 2.0 and the right COM port selected, I try to upload a program from the wiring IDE to the board. The IDE just "hangs" (the window does not redraw) for a long while (I have waited until 5 minutes) without any luck. After such a while if teh board is disconencted form the USB, teh IDE recovers.

I have tried versions 015 and 014 with the same results... none Sad

Any clue? I am starting to think I have got 3 bricks instead of 3 boards...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards!

Hi again,

By the way... When I disconnect the board after trying the upload for some time I can see a long list of messages (all are the same one) in the black bottom of the IDE.

The message says: "avrdude: stk500_2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout"

Does it help?

Thanks.

ok, I know who you are, have you tried both 1.x and 2.x? Please double check on steps 3 and 4 http://wiring.org.co/hardware/software_setup.html
Please try both and let me know. The problem may arise for these reasons:
Drivers not installed, (are you in a mac or pc?)
Wrong serial port (in which serial port the Wiring board appears to be connected?)
Wrong firmware version number. (check with version 1.x, thn with version 2.x)
Let me know.

Hi,

I have tried all such combinations already in two diffrent PCs with Windows XP... but no luck so far...

About the drivers: they  are installed since I can see the properties of the COM port assigned to the FTDI driver.

About the FW: since I purchased in march, I gess the boards have FW 2.0, right? I have checked with FW 1.0 but the IDE promptly responds tah tcannot connect to the board.

I have even disabled the Windows firewal just in case...

COuld it be a problem with Java? I have version 6, AFAIK.

What else can a I try?

Regards!

that´s very weird, I tested myself your boards before sending them, it might be possible to have verison 1.x on them, in any case uploading a new program is the same process, reset-upload-reset, so it shouldn´t be a problem. Is the LED blonking when you power the boards?. Try http://wiring.org.co/download/wiring-0016.zip (it is a release candiate not official yet, since some guys are testing it)
You have used Wiring before right? check the upload procedure here http://wiring.org.co/hardware/upload.html

Hi,

Yes I have used other Wiring boards for a while yet... without problems so far.

Yep, the leds blink when I plug the board. But when I try to upload a probram, the led near the USB connector does not blink, which I interpret that means that no transmission is happening...

Anyway, I will test version 016 and review the whole process. I will let you know the results.

Thanks.

are you sure you set the jumper right?

maybe try and disable any USB devices you are using, in case of an USB conflict

Good luck!

Hi,

I finally got them working.. ufff. With version 015 and 016 and Firmware 1.x.

I have rechecked the whole bunch of procedures and now everything works as expected. Surely I was missing some step Sad

Anyway, thanks for your kind support! And sorry for the noise Wink

Regards!
