Hi,

I would like to detect the position of a body with a grid of detector. Which detector is more appropriate ? IR- or Ultrasound-sensors ? The range has to be about 1m50/2m and the divergence of the beam has to be small. And of course the cheaper it is, the better !

could you explain more about a grid detector?

I would say IR(sharp) because they are cheaper, and you will not be facing the risk of echo's disturbing you measurement.

Though if you want to be very precise(like on cm or dm) you will need a ultrasound...

But for a real advise, tell us more

I think you should buy a IR sensor
IR sensors have a very small beam, low power consumption and they are cheap
But they have a disadvantage, they have a minimum range (about 5 cm)

Okay I think IR sensors will be fine.

The idea is to put sensors on a ceiling to detect the moves of somebody. I just have to detect the body, not the range.

Thx for the answers.

i totally agree with kars,

But be carefull when you buy then(i would advise sharp's):
Some of the IR sensors, have a small range, meaning that small person's won't trigger the grid
