Hi, I'm new to this. I'm trying to figure out how to compile/upload my program from the command line instead of using the Wiring IDE. Is this possible?

Thanks.

yes it is possible, you can actually see how the commands are invoked from the environment in the source code. Check this: http://wiring.uniandes.edu.co/source/trunk/wiring/app/Compiler.java?revision=397&view=markup
I promise I´ll include command line scripts with the next release. Inside the Wiring folder thre is a folder called tools, It could be a good to include the tools/avr/bin directory in your PATH system variable to be able to invoke the avr command line tools easier.
