Title: Cannot make software work in Fedora 14
Post by cbohart on 05/20/11 at 05:01:47
I downloaded the linux software to my computer that, OS fedora 14.  From the archive file I expanded the archive to my "home" folder.  There I can run the application but it doesn't recognize any serial port (the tool is greyed out).  I suspect that it is in the wrong place but have no idea.

Can you tell me where it must in a linux system or whether or not I must use yum.

Thanks.

I have the wiring software running on my fedora 14 box.  I have to start it from the terminal window with ./.  I can find the wiring board and its serial port.  But when I monitor the port, I get gibberish.  I have a program on it from a windows xp version of wiring-0027 and it reports integers every 1/2 second.  When I monitor the serial port in the linux version of wiring-0027 I get a string of control characters (rounded rectangles).  Why is this the case?  Must I reload the program from the linux program for it to display data in the serial window?

Please advise me on this.

Thanks.

hi, try to load the same sketch you loaded in windows in the editor on linux, then open the serial monitor. The serial monitor detects the speed at which start from the current sketch loaded, looking for the Serial.begin() command. Let me know.
Are you able to help us test and compile the next release in linux?

Thanks for the reply.  I did import the sketch from the WindowsXp folder and re-uploaded it and it corrected the issue but it did not dawn on me that a mismatch of serial speed could be happening.

I believe that fatigue had overcome me.  After a night, I was able to overcome the issues with a little refreshing of some UNIX protocol and some additional research.

I would be happy to help on future software releases for unix and hope to up to speed enough to be of use by then.
