Title: what has changed in new Wiring board?
Post by djones on 07/13/07 at 14:47:58
There is a cryptic posting on the main Wiring page that says:

02 April 2007
The Wiring I/O board just got better. It had a face lift including LEDs for RX/RX on Serial (USB) and some other goodies.

... but I can't find any details about these "goodies".

I think we would all like to learn more about what the recent changes are, what the board revision number is (so we know we get the latest!), and to what extent older revisions will continue to be supported by the Wiring software.

Looking forward to reading more details about the board changes ...

thanks,
 David Jones

Looking at an old a new board, I see the JTAG port is pinned out on the new board.
The ISP connector is now 6-pins instead of 10-pins.
There's an additional 4-pin header: Gnd/Vcc/Gnd/Vcc
The USB fuse is removed.
Two USB LEDs
Port-4 Rx/Tx silk screen.
JP1 USB/Ext power silk screen
External in +9 to +13 instead of +9 to +15

The new board works the same as the old board software-wise for me.

So am I correct that the new board no longer has a JTAG port?

Thatīs right, the JTAG space was replaced with more vcc nd gnd lines for projects. Also the ISP now uses the 6 pin connector version instead of the 10 pin. RX and TX leds on the USB makes much easier to see the communication activity with the board, also when new programs are uploaded into it. Also check the new WiringMini board. http://wiring.org.co/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1203441602
